 Great Weather Station September 19, 2008
I've had my weather station for over a year now and absolutely love it. I use it in conjunction with www.wunderground.com. With their free uploading software that connects though the serial port it uploads my weather data to their website. The product works great and having it wired saves on batteries unlike all those wireless only stations. This one can be wireless but have not tried that feature. The wired is better in my opinion anyway. It's update interval is shorter. Only downside is that it don't work when the power is out.

I find the instructions vage. I don't like the way is lays on the table, I wish it had a stand to hold it vertical.

The communication protocol does not use the standard character transmission unlike the other La Crosse consoles (WS23XX). The WS36XX series use the handshake lines of the serial port for communications.
This being the case, the timing is critical on the handshake lines. Most USB to serial adapters come with poorly written drivers (they can actually hang your computer!). If you do attempt to use a USB adapter, you might try one with the Prolific PL-2303 chipset (IOGear makes one). Also, make sure you have the latest driver for it.
If you have a home PC without serial ports, you can add a 2 port serial card for about $10 (don't pay $50 or more).

I was happy to receive the WS-3610 as a gift and excited to install it and receive data on the display. I was extremely dismayed NOT to be able download and create history data files on my purely USB enabled laptop PC. I emailed the makers of HeavyWeather Pro a couple of times about the issue and was extremely dismayed NOT to get ANY response. I bought a rs232 to USB adaptor and a pin reverser allowing me to download one line of weather data to a HeavyWeather Pro display template on my laptop. However the HeavyWeather Pro is not written well enough to allow building history.dat files. IRKSOME!!!!!

I had reviewed a number of Weather stations and decided that the LaCrosse 3610 was a good unit at a fair price and ordered one from Amazon. After I set it up I found the LCD display almost unuseable due to the extremely low contrast. I contacted Amazon who suggested I contact the Mfgr., who said that there was nothing that I could do to improve it except to return it to Amazon for another unit. In the meantime 30 days passed and when I contacted Amazon (you leave your no. and they call you back), they said that I would not receive the full amount back, even if I asked for a direct replacement it would cost me 15% of the purchase price. Obviously not a very reputable co. to deal with - I do not recommend this product or buying anything from Amazon that might need to be returned.
