Improved range for cold temperatures January 16, 2009

I actually don't have this thermometer, I have it's predecessor. Tonight is a very cold night in Vermont, and I have been actively monitoring my thermometer probes outside and in my chicken coop. Suddenly, my thermometer reads "--" instead of giving the outside temperature? What the heck is going on? I googled a bit, and it turns out, that my thermometer doesn't register temperatures below a wimpy -21.8F.
THIS unit, however, is supposed to go down to -39.8F so if you live in an arctic climate -- this is the one for you.
Other than this problem, I have enjoyed this thermometer's predecessor for the past 2-3 years. The buttons do feel sorta weird when you push them, the way they click. But overall, a nice unit, and great to be able to hook up multiple probes.
