Great Value February 10, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We have been using the unit for the past two months and it has performed every bit as advertised. It is extremely easy to set up, but the direction booklet, like a lot today, must be written by in foreign country. The command of the King's english and structure makes you read sections several times to understand how to find your way around the displays. But that is a fact of life with our world economy today.
We have tried it both in the wirless format and as the cabled hook-up. Depending on the user needs they both function as advertised. The only noticable difference is the response time mostly easily seen in the windspeed and direction. If your wind is "puffy" and "shifty" you will want to use the cable connections. The reading response time is much faster. If your location is where there is a steady wind or you don't care if the display reading is exactly that moment in time, the wirless is works fine and can make location very easy.
The only reason I did not give the unit 5 stars is that the display settings are not very user friendly and takes a while to get acclimated. Moving around the variuos display functions to find the one you want is cumbersome. (example is finding the wind chill or rainfall in the last 24 hrs). I worry about the push buttons life if your use is frequent.
Of course we have not had it long enough to predict maintenance or life of the functions but see nothing to indicate a potental problem.
Overall an excellent value for a complete weather station that even comes with computer link for the technocrats. :)
Lacks customization of screen February 9, 2008 I have been using the 2308 for about six months and like its range. The rain gauge is accurate enough for my use. My big complaint is I can not easily reset the rain totals and can not easily see the key numbers I want. Namely in door and out door temperature now, rain since last reset, humidity, wind speed and direction. These, as far as I know are not on one easy screen and can not be put on one easy screen. To see how much rain has fallen while the in door temperature is showing I have to press buttons. To reset the total rain fall or any other history, I have to press an incomprensable set of buttons that I can't remember so they don't get reset. This is not an easy device to use.
If by some chance, I can customize the screen, it would sure be great for the customization settings to be in the instructions somewhere. I have not been able to find them.
Great Product February 8, 2008 This is a great product and the price is very good for weather beginners. Ease to install and the wireless signal cover a good distant. It has 3 weeks working without any problem. I hope it's keep that way.
Heavy Weather Review has problem with dates and times February 5, 2008 I am pleased with the product except that the "Heavy Weather Review" software has a problem with dates and times on the charts that are not accurate; reports current weather data as ahead about 6 hours. I am waiting for a response from LaCross to get a date when the software will be fixed. Suggest you also contact them before purchasing.
In my opinion, LaCrosse should not have put the product on the market with this known problem.
Exactly as described January 12, 2008 This product is exactly as advertised. It is easy to set up, use and understand. Great value for the money. All readings, with the exception of outdoor humidity, correlate exactly with my local official weather station. Customer service from LaCrosse is quick and comprehensive. The only drawbacks I have found so far are 1)if you have a great distance or considerable solid surfaces to go through, wireless transmitter signal is too weak or range is too short, 2) there are a number bugs/glitches in the heavy weather and heavy weather review software. Neither of these issues are showstoppers. Great device!
