Those reviewers who suggest that the thermometer is near-impossible to read at night are correct. However I was able to mitigate this considerably by taping a single piece of properly-shaped paper to the back of the display.
This causes light from inside of the house to reflect off the paper, essentially backlighting the display. Meanwhile, the paper is translucent enough to let light through during the daylight hours. It's not perfect, but it's much better than out-of-the-box.

Perfect little thermometer, this is the second one I have purchased in years!!! Numbers are big enough to see temp. To get thermometer to stick to window I had to clean window with alcohol (or the spot) let Air dry and then stick thermometer on and it will stick through cold and hot, wet and cold. I highly recommend this item to everyone!!

This window thermometer stays on - great for RVing. When you wish to know in morning what temperature is outside, you're set! Had to get them for everyone else in our family.

This thermometer worked fine for months, attached to my kitchen bay window under a roof overhang. I agree that the numbers are not as defined as in the photos, and you cannot read them at night. One big storm, with rain blowing sideways against the window, obliterated the readout so I had to throw it away. I do not plan to buy another thermometer of this design.
